When you’re getting ready to star in one of the biggest tentpole films ever, it’s not out of the question to expect all interviews moving forward to involve avoiding big questions about said blockbuster. Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice star Amy Adams may have expected something along these lines when she agreed to appear on NBC’s Today recently, but she had to avoid something else altogether, and it ended up getting her segment yanked out of the telecast.
Adams, who was actually appearing on the show to promote Tim Burton’s upcoming dramatic biopic Big Eyes, was told soon before she was to appear on the air that she had to answer questions about the recent Sony hack, despite the fact that she’s one of the marquee celebs who didn’t seem to be affected in any way by it. According to Deadline, she told a producer that she’d prefer not to, given the short time allotted to the interview in the first place. That was met by a brassy claim that no one dictates Today’s interviews. Snap!
Adams was reportedly game to answer whatever questions they had, despite not wanting to, but apparently all it took was that little bit of initial pushback to shatter everything. Despite being seen LIVE in the orange room before her interview was scheduled, Today took that point to just dump the interview completely. Adams only agreed to be on Today because she was already in New York to host Saturday Night Live, so this was just a complete waste of time for the Oscar-nominated actress.

We firmly stand behind Amy Adams. We’ve been lucky enough to have had her talents grace several of our films. We are certain her fellow actors and directors would all agree, she is nothing but the consummate professional both on and off set. Amy decided to speak up for herself and express her disappointment that Today would feel the need to ask her a question she did not feel comfortable , and rather than respect her opinion or continue the discussion, the reaction was to pull her appearance from the show.”Sure, TWC has been behind some dirty behavior in the past, but all of that probably wasn’t the fault of the underling who drafted that press statement. I’m on Adams’ side here, because Today is a sinking ship in a sea of non-professionalism anyway.
I think enough people are talking about the Sony hack that we really don’t need more people being asked to do so. If only Adams was promoting that Janis Joplin biopic, she might have been more gruff about it.
