Many Arrow fans were split on the darker tone of the show’s third season. Sara Lance’s death, Oliver Queen’s (Stephen Amell) apparent death and resurrection, Thea’s (Willa Holland) death and resurrection – season three was just a whole lot of people dying. Well, Arrow executive producer Marc Guggenheim points to that season’s darker storyline as the cause of Felicity’s more somber outlook. “The show got really, really dark last year, and I think [Felicity] reacted accordingly. Certainly no one was more tired of the crying than Emily [Bett Rickards], but right behind Emily was the rest of us.” However, with Oliver and Felicity now in a formal boyfriend-girlfirend relationship, and 5 months passing between the season three finale, expect the, “strong, capable, funny Felicity… we know and love” to return.

Arrow season 4 returns October 7th at 8PM on The CW.
