Luke Skywalker a ‘Recluse’ In Star Wars: The Force Awakens?
There has been so much speculation as to why Mark Hamill has been sporting a full beard, and looks like a homeless recluse in all of the shots from the filming of Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Today we have some new tidbits on why this may be. Check out the latest below, and share your thoughts after the JUMP!

Disney has been waging war, as of late, to contain spoilers and protect the integrity of its upcoming blockbuster, Star Wars: The Force Awakens. The biggest problem is, now that a lot of people have worked on the film, keeping its many secrets can be downright difficult, if not nearly impossible. There are so many people who want to go into the latest Star Wars movie unspoiled. This story is NOT for you.
I’m even going to put this spoilery information after the trailer for Star Wars: The Force Awakens, to protect you people from yourselves.
OK, here it goes. The folks over at MakingStarWars.net are going on record with a lot of plot information shared with them by a source. The story breaks down the identity of key characters in the film, connects several relationships (that we basically already sort of knew), but then drops a massive spoiler reveal regarding Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) and his mission in The Force Awakens. Are you ready?
The source believes that Luke Skywalker will be in hiding for the bulk of Star Wars: The Force Awakens. We had heard that before, but not the fact that he’s actually guarding “an ancient Sith tomb” that is trying to be opened by the chief bad guy in the film, Kylo Ren. This is a self-imposed exile, and it likely explains why Hamill has been sporting a grizzly-man beard during the Star Wars production. The source goes on to say that Luke does not know how to open the tomb, but he IS being tormented by evil spirits as he tries to complete his mission and keep Kylo Ren out of the valuable tomb.
That makes sense. It’s even possible that the Irish island of Skellig Michael could be the “location” of this ancient tomb, as Mark Hamill famously filmed scenes from The Force Awakens there last summer. The geographical look of that rocky terrain would be ideal for an isolated tomb, and we could easily see Luke occupying a place of solitude, much like his master, Yoda, as he completed his Jedi calling.
Of course, all of this is rumor. The source makes a connection to a lightsaber that is in the possession of the character named Rey, and that the saber is an artifact that Kylo Ren can use to gain access to the tomb. The report mentions how Han and Leia will be pulled into this quest, but I’ll leave the spoiler levels up to you to decide.
This is a juicy bit of character information. Do you believe it? Do you think that this is misdirection? And should Disney drop a new trailer, one that potentially has more plot details, to curb the eventual leaks? Weigh in below!
