No Iron Man 4 says Robert Downey Jr?

I know we were all hoping that there would indeed be a 4th installment in the Iron Man Movie Franchise. Many hoping that the Mandarin would have a chance to redeem himself. Actor Robert Downey Jr. has shot down any speculation that there’s a fourth Iron Man currently in the pipeline at Marvel.

“There isn’t one in the pipe,” Downey Jr. said in an interview with Variety. “No, there’s no plan for a fourth ‘Iron Man.’”

This could have something to do with Downey Jr ‘s $50 million pay check for his role in Iron Man 3, and the fact that he’s currently the most expensive actor in Hollywood. When Variety asked if he would “let” someone else play the role, the actor responded with typical irreverence:

“I like that the idea is that it would be up to me, like I’m casting director for Marvel.”

Back in July, RDJ offered fans a glimmer of hope, suggesting he’d be open to returning if the right opportunity presented itself.

“It’s that thing of: Why give up the belt when it feels like you can barely get jabbed?” he apparently said, before adding, “Most people are saying that right when they get knocked out. The future is, as usual, uncertain.”

Of course, these recent comments don’t spell the last of RDJ as the beloved hero, as he’ll be returning for Marvel’s The Avengers 2 and 3.
