G.I.Joe

Reflecting on G.I. Joe 2018: The End of an Era for 3-3/4 Inch Figures

Welcome to The Outpost. Today I’m taking a look back at G.I. Joe in 2018 as a whole. It was a bitter sweet year as the 3-3/4 figures would come to a screeching halt. Although the past couple of years were almost club and convention exclusives, it was still the end of an era filled with awesome figures and vehicles. There were some great figures in 2018, but even YoJoe.com gave up on completing their archives. They listed Rampart and a female Cobra Officer and their list was done. Other cool figures from this year that I would have loved to have include Blizzard, Falcon, Road Pig, Bullet Proof, Captain Gridiron, Kangor, Hollow Point, and a couple Slaughters Marauders.

I’m not even sure which figures were actually produced this year as I found several lists that I’m not sure if they were concepts or actually produced. This was an interesting year and as we all know life would soon change with COVID, and we would only see a couple Hiss Tanks, an Awe Striker and a handful of reissued 3-3/4 inch figures over the next several years. Most of us probably didn’t see the 6 inch explosion that was simmering in Hasbro’s lab. The 3-3/4 inch style figure has taken a back seat but I don’t think we have seen the end as we have gotten a few O-Ring style Joes and still have a good number of figures that did not get a 25th modern style Joe. I’m interested to see what they might bring with the 30th anniversary of the 1994 lineup this year.

Maybe just a pipe dream but I would love to see a modern 3-3/4 Gears, Effects, Space Shot, Predacon, and many more of the cool figures from the Nineties. Did anyone get any of the 2018 figures? Who are your favorite figures from this year? Share your thoughts with us in the comments below. Make sure to check back next week for the next chapter at The Outpost.
