G.I. JOE INSIDE THE FILECARDS FEATURING ‘Cover Girl’!

Story by Staff Writer ‘Shaft’
G.I. Joe Cover Girl has “Armor” listed as her PMS and “AFV Mechanics” listed as her SMS. Now “Armor” can be ambiguous and mean any MOS under the 19 series Armor Branch which also includes the 19D Cavalry Scout MOS. For simplicity I classify any Joe who is listed as “Armor” and comes with a tracked vehicle as a 19K M1 Armor Crewman and any Joe listed as “Armor” and who comes with a wheeled vehicle as a 19D. Not a great system and I tend to ignore the vehicles a Joe comes with and focus more on the info in their filecard but feel this is one way of figuring out a Joe’s specific MOS.
The only MOS I could perhaps get close to “AFV Mechanics” is possibly a 91B Wheeled Vehicle Mechanic. AFV would deal with armored fighting vehicles and not tanks. Obviously during the time her figure came out she would not be allowed in the Armor branch but a more modern take on her would.
One interesting thing of note is her insignia on her left sleeve. This looks like the patch used by the 104th Infantry Division which is a Reserve Training Division. Not sure if this necessarily means she is Army Reserve or an active duty Army assigned to a reserve unit or not. Perhaps someone with more knowledge on how these divisions work with active and reserve duty soldiers can chime in.
