Now You Know With YorktownJoe – Marvel G.I. Joe Issue 77 Recap!

Story by Yorktownjoe
Issue 77 “AFTERSHOCKS”

Background
Issue 76 brought the Cobra Civil War crashing down like an arrow!! And the aftermath is underway. Feel free to check out the review of Issue 76 in case you missed it. (You can catch up on other “Now You Know With YorktownJoe” reviews there as well!)
On to the issue

We begin with multiple Tomahawk helicopters inbound to help evacuate the Joe’s forces. Hawk and “fake” Cobra Commander trade some verbal barbs, and Zarana and Roadblock are nearby.

Zarana then calls Lady Jaye worthless trash.
Lady Jaye pivots while holding a long pole and asks if Zarana was talking to her. In one fluid motion, the pole crashes Zarana in the face, killing her instantly.

Just kidding, and checking if you were paying attention or just looking at the pictures.
But this does trigger what was referred to in the 80’s as a “cat fight.” Typically, two females get into a physical altercation.

Hawk goes to break it up, but Roadblock requests he leave it alone, since Lady Jaye is winning.

The Joe’s and Cobra’s show how enlightened they are by enjoying watching female sports.
As if this issue wasn’t already on the borderline of flagrantly patronizing the predominantly male audience, we get a scene of Destro and Baroness aboard a yacht in the Caribbean.

They are definitely not in their action figure attire! Baroness is a little dinged up from the war, but still decided to rock the bikini. Destro is keeping his gold helmet on, but almost nothing else. Just swim trunks.
Baroness is truly touched that Destro sailed his forces from Scotland to the Gulf, just to get her back.
And back on Cobra Island…

“Fake” Cobra Commander and Dr. Mindbender are moving some things into the formerly sunken freighter. Mindbender is placing Serpentor’s body in a tank and packing it with ice for storage. Some destroyed B.A.T.s are also stacked on a pallet in case they can be salvaged later. (Bit of foreshadowing there, almost 22 issues in advance…)
Baroness informs Destro about Fred VII (7), and Destro wonders how he can use that to his advantage.
[

General Hawk and General Hollingsworth (Hawk’s immediate boss) are called to testify before an evil cabal of Pentagon Generals known as “The Jugglers.”
They get blamed for the Cobra Island war fiasco, and are sent on their way, along with Roadblock, to have a “not so happy” little accident.

Roadblock asks for Hawk’s word that Hawk won’t throw HIM under the bus, and promptly escapes in the most Roadblock way ever.

With all the turmoil and orders for the Joe team to be deactivated by the Jugglers, Destro and Baroness continue to plot for a power play.

After eluding capture, Roadblock turns up at a private residence of someone the Joe’s have dealt with in the past: Dr. Adele Burkhart. (Rescued her in issues 1 and 38-39.)

Issue 77 was a transitional issue that dealt with the aftermath of the Cobra Civil War. Have the Joe’s REALLY been deactivated? Will Destro and the Baroness sneak back and overthrow “fake” Cobra Commander? Will Roadblock give Dr. Burkhart his secret recipe for Crêpes Suzette? Find out in the next issue!!
Hope you enjoyed this review!
Tune in soon for Issue 78.
