Micro brewing.

The term originated in the UK in the 1970’s. Micro brewing is the brewing of small batch of beer. Over the past decade Micro brewing has skyrocketed and the variety has grown to a proportion where it might take a lifetime to taste every kind. The brewing process is pretty basic water, a grain, and hopes boil it ferment it and voila you are ready to go.

Micro brewers though do some testing or trial and error. Mixing fruit, berries, just about anything I guess to create different types complexity and flavor in their brew. Now many of the brews taste similar but I’m a sucker for trying the different brands and flavors. Now anyone who is of legal age could go down to the local place, here in New York it is corner store, drug store grocery store, pretty much anyplace and you can grab a 40 to slop down. But if you are looking for a good tasting sit with your friends and talk about life, then a nice micro brew should be the selection. I have tested many and New York has a lot of breweries, one of my favorite is the Brewery Ommegang, planted in the heart of baseball, Cooperstown, NY which is home of the Baseball Hall of Fame. They create Belgium style brews. Another local based in Utica, NY home of Mark Lemke who played second base for the Braves during the 1990’s, the Saranac brewery. Finally if you are not fond of the beer flavor, Shocktop Brewery has created some wonderful brews that include one that taste like honey, another Chocolate, and most recently one that tastes just like a pretzel.

So this holiday season if you are looking to sit down to a delightful tasting brew, check out your local Micro brews and pic something that you wouldn’t normally choose, you never know when you might discover something different and wonderful, and always remember to drink responsibly.
