If Tuesday’s Ant-Man trailer left you wanting more, we now have it when it comes to the villain of the piece. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Corey Stoll goes into surprising detail about the origin of his character Darren Cross, who becomes Yellowjacket over the course of the film. The Strain actor talks about his character’s connection with Hank Pym going back to his childhood, and how he turned against Pym.

“I was this child prodigy that Michael Douglas’ character Hank Pym discovered at an early age,” Stoll says to EW’s Clark Collis. “He nurtured me and I was part of his technology company. I started to become aware of these rumors of this fabled technology that can shrink people to half an inch while keeping their full-size strength. And I became very obsessed with it and demanded that we move forward. But Pym had sort of buried it for ethical, moral reasons.”

Stoll goes on to say that Pym loses control of his own company in Ant-Man when Darren Cross conspires with Pym’s daughter, Hope Van Dyne, to take over the company. Sounds similiar to Iron Man’s primary antagonist Obadiah Stane, who took Tony Stark’s company from him when Stark tied to bend it to more ethical products. In this case however, it’s over Pym’s inventions and the Pym particle technology — a technology which Cross subverts.
