Star Wars: Rogue One Teaser Trailer is Here!

Star Wars Celebration wasn’t done with the premiere of the Star Wars: The Force Awakens trailer on opening day. To close out the festivities, director Gareth Edwards took to the Anaheim stage to discuss his upcoming spinoff film, Rogue One, and despite filming not set to begin for another few months, already had some footage to show from the film.

First, Edwards confirmed the plot of the film, which is officially described as, “A band of resistance fighters unite for a daring mission to steal the Death Star plans.” This matches up with the earlier plot rumors, but there was no mention of either Boba Fett or Han Solo. The film stars Felicity Jones as a resistance fighter and her team is made up of a group of soldiers with no magical powers. The film, which will take place between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope, takes place at a time when the Jedi are largely absent. “It’s about the fact that God’s not coming to save us,” Edwards told the crowd.

And, as we mentioned earlier, he didn’t want to just talk about the film, he wanted to be able to show something. So, like when he presented Godzilla at Comic-Con, he put together a concept trailer for those in the audience.

Edwards said he wanted to put the “war” back in Star Wars and is essentially making a war movie (he even hired Greig Fraser, the DP of Zero Dark Thirty). You definitely get that feel from the concept art he showed of troops deploying from an aircraft.
