CUSTOM ACTION FIGURES: 101 – “10 QUESTIONS FOR A CUSTOMIZER”
CUSTOM ACTION FIGURES: 101 – “10 QUESTIONS FOR A CUSTOMIZER: JAMEY ROSS MCFARLAND”
BY: ROB PANICK & RUFUS ADAMS
This week I’d like to welcome my new co-contributor to Custom Action Figures: 101, Rufus Adams, a.k.a. CrimsonViper. This week Rufus is interviewing Jamey McFarland. Jamey was born in Indiana and moved to Florida with his mom n older sister when his parents divorced. His mom worked 2 jobs to raise his sister and him. They grew up poor but happy. Jamey grabbed my first comic at age 8 G.I. Joe issue 1 and was a lifelong fan ever since. He loves to kit-bash and customize figures and vehicles. It’s a stress reliever. Jamey’s a 39 year-old parent of 2 teenagers and 2 dogs. He love to laugh, is extremely sarcastic and a diehard old fashion American mutt!!

Rufus Adams: First off, how long have you been customizing?
Jamey Ross Mcfarland: I’ve been customizing for about a year and a half.

RA: What’s your favorite figures to customize?
JM: My favorite figures to customize are my troop builders for Colors Oner. I have made custom helmets and gear for them.
RA: What’s your workspace like?
JM: It’s a disaster area, lol! If I clean it up it seems like all my creative ideas are locked away.

RA: What paints and brushes do you use?
JM: I use Model Masters acrylic and Citadel paints and a large variety of brushes.

RA: If you could give advice to someone who is brand new to customizing, what would it be?
JM: Have fun, only make figures or vehicles that you want and never stop learning and trying to improve.

RA: Give us your best “secret trick” you use when customizing.
JM: After I prep I paint the entire thing flat black model masters and dry brush every layer afterwards. Always start with the darkest color first

RA: What other things are you into besides customizing?
JM: Besides customizing I’m a huge comic book head and movie snob. lol I haven’t touched a video game since I started doing customs.

For the last three questions, I’ll consult with our mystical CAF:101 Question Randomizer:
RA: What is your dream job?
JM: Owning a comic book shop and having all my employees dressed up as villains or super heroes, lol!

RA: What is your favorite meal of the day?
JM: Dinner with my kids, lady and 2 dogs.
RA: If you won $1,000,000, what would you do with it?
JM: Million dollars hmm I would buy my mom a house in the country and myself one as well and open up an Epic Comic Book Shop!!!!

RA: Jamey, thanks for answering our 10 questions!
JM: I had a blast thanks for the honor!
Here’s a review of Jamey’s GI Joe “Stalker” figure done by Jeremy Hill, with still photos by Byron Hernandez of various figures Jamey made for him.
