In the early years of Cobra, The Commander had set up a Cobra Lab Codenamed The Lair. It was developing bio enhancements for his army, a predecessor to the Neo and Nano Vipers and was also to be a fall back should Springfield fall. Dr. Gaul was the head research. His notes where based upon a captured specimen from the Red Shadows called Kraken. The other primary staff included Ms. Athena liaison entrusted to recording all the findings to her undocumented commander. A security enforcement commander and assorted Cobra agents and lab techs. An accident occurred that the entire facility was enveloped in a biological infestation the safeguard for The Lair included nuclear and IV cleansing. The event was notified and The Commander departed to investigate. What he found was truly amazing, a full biological fusion had occurred, flourished in the offset of the event. rabid wild creatures with a near hive-like mind and a few interesting if not familiar subjects seemed to be in command of the more humanoid castes. They had no memory of who, or how they had become as they where. the commander seeing a perfect chance to hone an entire subrace to his will was too much to pass off, so he told a fantastic tale of him being a scarred noble of their race that they had set out to raise an army to destroy the technology driven humanity from the world. in time this lie would cost him dearly.
