G.I. JOE INSIDE THE FILE CARDS FEATURING “COBRA OFFICER”!

Today we look at the G.I. Joe Cobra Officer, whose PMS is “Infantry” and SMS is “Artillery, Intelligence”. From a military perspective that is three branches, which would be difficult to achieve. But maybe Cobra trains their officers just enough that they are “jack of all trades” and not necessarily a master of any. It also lists on the officer filecard that they are martial arts experts, masters of disguise, deceit, and demolitions. So three options come to mind: do officers come from the regular trooper ranks (since both have martial arts, demolitions/explosives training), are they a separate career path meaning they start out as officers, or can one become an officer through either means?

Officers are qualified experts with the AK-47 (technically at that time the AKM), PM-63, M-16 and M-11. As with the trooper it makes me wonder if not all officers are equipped with the AK, but rather the toy was just showcasing what some within the Cobra organization are equipped with. Also if an officer does come from the trooper ranks then they would also be qualified with the other types of weapons the trooper is already qualified with.

It also states that many operate as spies at defense plants, nuclear power facilities, etc. So basically the officer was the predecessor to the Crimson Guard. Maybe as time went on Cobra saw the need for the front-line fighter to lead troopers to be a separate job with Cobra’s that acted in covert operations? Thus maybe the first CG’s were pulled from the ranks of Cobra Officers who had more drive, loyalty to Cobra and had certain college degrees? Are you a fan of the G.I.
