Get the Skinny on Jurassic World!

Another Friday matinee with a small crowd in the theater. I went to the first showing at 1240 and the crowd was minimal. The local press was there, dinosaur bones from the Black Hills Institute of Geological Research were on hand also.

After watching Coke’s Movie move ad for the umpteenth time, and a few previews for some real life movies like Everest, it was time to get comfortable and see the spectacle.
It was quite a spectacle too. ahem…Indominus Rex.

One of the main themes of the movie was throwing caution to the winds for bigger attractions at the park. This is exactly what Amblin entertainment does with this movie.
the dinos are bigger and badder, the raptors are cooler, the deaths are on par with the first movie, with a kick.

It has been 22 years since the park opened and coincidentally 22 years since we were treated to those spectacular effects that kicked off a whole cacophony of advancements in cinema that continue to push the edge every day.

Chris Pratt is the hero. You know that guy, he played a little character called Starlord. Bryce Dallas Howard you may have heard of her? Plays an absolute badass, in stilletto heels, in the middle of the jungle. She goes from manager of the park and chief decision maker to protective Aunt.

If you like Easter eggs, Jurassic World is chock full of them. The return to Isla Nubar, has both the new and the old. Has it really been 22 years? The tech has changed, the methodology has changed but some things remain the same. The best part and integral to the story, is how Owen is able to communicate with…raptors. Those sleek little dinos that..well let Dr. Grant explain.

Putting the kids in the hands of her British assistant Zara played by Katie McGrath, Claire wants nothing to do with her two nephews, played by Ty Simpkins and NIck Robinson, that is until the big asset, gets loose. This sparks off a chain of events that makes you cry for the peaceful dinos and fear the 6 species of carnivores.

Running around the island, looking for the boys, while 22,000 park guests sit in the hot sun all crowded together. Everything is fine there until that chain of events smashes the aviary, much to the dismay of Zara who is tortured until her final demise.

There are comedic moments, romanic moments, sweaty moments, and even a scene that mirrors what happened to the Marines in Aliens.
It follows the formula that worked so well with the first, modifies it, and creates a new tale that I think you will enjoy.
