1987 Cobra Mamba Review – The Coolest Cobra Helicopter Ever? | G.I. Joe Classic Spotlight at The Outpost

Story by Mitchell Smith
Welcome to The Outpost. Today I’m taking a look at the 1987 Cobra Mamba with Gyro-Viper. I did get this as a kid back in Christmas of 87. This was such a cool concept vehicle and actually did create some conversation with my brothers on whether or not this thing could really fly. I would have been 12 & 1/2 at this point and my 2 brothers a couple and a few years older. It didn’t change my mind though as this was a cool Cobra helicopter.
It has a cool design plus the 2 detachable flight pods gave me solace that 2 could escape safely and I would figure out how to get the pilot out. Speaking of the pilot, the Gyro-Viper is one of my favorite pilots and I actually ruined somewhat my original helmet by painting it to use as Luke’s blaster shield helmet from the original Star Wars movie. I guess I have a unique personal item in my collection forever. Overall this is a really cool concept vehicle that realistically probably would never take flight, (pointed out by my son who is taking aerospace engineering), lol. This was a fun vehicle back in the day and it’s still a fun vehicle today. Did anyone else have this as a kid? Make sure to check back next week for the next discussion at The Outpost.
