THE POP EXPOSE – Clark and Reese IGNITE Women’s Basketball!

Story by Mitchell Smith
Hello everybody, today I’m looking at a future potential rival that started last Sunday afternoon in the women’s NCAA Basketball Finals. One of the greatest all around women players Caitlin Clark for Iowa battled a young LSU team and was seemingly taunted by Angel Reese of LSU. Clark focused on the moment and the realization that LSU had just outplayed them in the championship game, on the other hand Reese was also living in the moment and realized they had beat the best player possibly of all time. Is this a Magic Bird moment that will slingshot the WNBA into prime time?
The championship game has been quite a topic this week and could be just what women’s basketball needs to propel the sport forward. Magic and Bird’s rivalry started when they went head to head as Michigan State took on Indiana State in the 1979 Men’s championship. Magic got the best of , arguably the best player of all time, Larry Bird. They would go on to sling shot the NBA into one of the best eras ever.
Clark and Reese may not become Magic and Bird but the story line is certainly there and the spice that is needed to turn the WNBA into must watch TV seems to be sitting right there. Clark stated later in the week that taunting is part of the game and it’s part of what makes men’s basketball exciting. I’m interested in where women’s basketball will be in ten years, as the players are getting better and better and more competitive. I watched the entire championship game and I was more entertained than a lot of the men’s games I watched this year. I still do not have much interest in WNBA, but mainly because they don’t televise it on basic channels that I get. I’m thinking Reese and Clark may be able to change that down the road and we will see more talent and more games on tv as these 2 and other stars rise to the top.
