Memorial Day

US Memorial Day was created after the American Civil War to recognize those soldiers who fought and died in the war. Since then it is been recognized the last Monday in May and although we are celebrating those vets who have fought for our freedom, this also kind of marks the beginning of summer. Barbecues, picnics, camping, and many other outdoor activities. We definitely should take time to honor those heroes that have fought and died for us.

Memorial day in Syracuse normally starts with a 9 am parade down James street. Then the crowd falls in behind the last act which is the fire trucks and follows them to the war memorial at the end. There is always a few vets there at the end and they give a little speech and a moment of silence. After that we normally have a cook out and enjoy our freedom that so many have fought and died for. My grandfather was in the 5th Armored division and marched from the beaches of Normandy into Germany, he took various pictures from riding on the Sherman tank to pictures of the evens inside German concentration camps where they burned the bodies. It really puts our freedom in perspective.

So hope you all enjoy your Memorial Day and remember those vets who have given there all to protect it.
