Christopher Yost, writer for the first two Thor films and the upcoming ‘Thor: Ragnarok’ sequel, was hired to write the ‘Masters of the Universe’ movie. The ‘He-Man’ film reboot is expected to skip the origins story.
According to Forbes, Yost should forget about exploring the ‘He-Man’ and Skeletor saga from the very beginning. Basically, He-Man is Prince Adam of Eternia, and Skeletor is his nemesis who is trying to take over the land. This premise is known to the potential moviegoers: the ones who have watched the ’80s hit cartoon.
Consequently, knowing how Adam became He-Man or why Skeletor is a human skeleton is of little to no importance to the audience and the story. ‘Masters of the Universe’, as is the case with most kids’ shows, “opened with a thirty second title sequence that explicitly laid out the origin story and introduced the main characters.”
Originally, the to-be reboot is from Filmation/Mattel’s “He Man and the Masters of the Universe” famous cartoon (1983-1985). The movie adaptation was made in 1987, which turned out to be both a critic disappointment and a cult hit, according to a report by Variety.According to the Movie Pilot, Yost is famed for his work on Thor, Thor 2: The Dark World and now, on the upcoming Thor 3: Ragnarok. In addition, the Marvel writer has worked on animated series and comic books, such as X-Men: Evolution and Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, New X-Men, Scarlet Spider and X-Force.
This successful track record certainly makes tapping him to adapt a comic book property a sound decision. Sony replace Terry Rossio and Jeff Wadlow, who were working earlier for drafts of the Masters of the Universe drafts.
As the ‘Masters of the Universe’ is still in its early development stages, it is unclear whether it will truly skip the origin story. Sony’s latest update remains to be Christopher Yost’s enlistment as scribe for the ‘He-Man’ reboot. Meanwhile, we can look forward to Yost’s latest movie adaptation, ‘Thor 3: Raganarok’, in 2017.
