Alfre Woodard’s Role Revealed for ‘Luke Cage’ Series!
We recently reported that actress Alfre Woodard had been cast for a major role in Marvel’s upcoming ‘Luke Cage‘ series on Netflix. Today we have learned that she will be playing the character, ‘Mariah Dillard‘. On Twitter, Marvel announced Alfre Woodard’s “Luke Cage” role as Mariah Dillard with a photo, which also touts Dillard’s position as a political candidate.
According to an earlier report, Woodward’s character is “a powerful woman in local politics who will have an impact on Luke Cage’s life.” This name reveal may indicate Woodard is playing an adapataion of Black Mariah, who is a frequent antagonist for both Cage and Iron Fist in the comics as both a professional criminal and a drug dealer.
Woodward’s past credits include “State of Affairs,” “12 Years a Slave,” “True Blood” and “Black Panther,” an animated miniseries based on the Marvel Comics hero of the same name.
Colter will play series lead Luke Cage in the thirteen-episode show. He will make his debut as the character in “Jessica Jones,” another Netflix/Marvel series scheduled to debut later this fall.
Executive produced by Cheo Hodari Coker and produced by Marvel Television in association with ABC Studios, “Luke Cage” is scheduled to premiere on Netflix at an unspecified date in 2016.
