Black Widow may be the smallest of the Avengers, but she’s proven herself to be the most versatile – especially when it comes to helping out in other heroes’ movies.
During a press event in Beijing Thursday, directors Joe and Anthony Russo talked about returning to the Captain America franchise to helm Captain America: Civil War and made it a point to mention that Scarlett Johansson will return there as Black Widow.
“We’ve been preparing for Captain America: Civil War since the last one debuted,” Anthony said. “It’s going to star Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson will be back, Winter Soldier will be back, and Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man will also be joining us in the next film.”
While the idea of Black Widow showing up in Captain America: Civil War isn’t too much of a surprise given her major role in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, before now it’d only been rumored and presumed that she would return. This would seem to confirm, however, that Black Widow does indeed survive to live another day – and star in another movie – after May’s Avengers: Age of Ultron.
The Russos go on to state that Winter Solder will play a big part in Captain America: Civil War, and said that the big thing this third Cap movie would have is something obvious to those that read the Civil War comic.
“The new element in this film,” Joe says,” is that Captain America and Iron Man fight with each other.”
Reporters at the Chinese press event asked if the movie would see any new Chinese characters, in which the brothers responded that while they haven’t decided at this time they are hopeful. They also revealed discussions about meeting with unnamed Chinese actors while there for this event in Beijing.
