The recently debuted second season of DC Comics-based Batman prequel “Gotham” has been marketed as “Rise of the Villains,” and it looks like a relatively recent addition to the Rogues Gallery will make its way to the show — at some point, at least. In an interview¬†with¬†ComicBook.com, “Gotham” showrunner Bruno Heller stated that the Court of Owls are planned to be a part of the series at some point — though he wouldn’t reveal when.

“Looking at the longevity of the show, we have to hold some cards back, we can’t just throw all of the elements, all of the story at once,” Heller said. “The long arc of the show is Bruce Wayne’s journey of discovery down into the depths of the physical and meta-physical world of Gotham. The Court of Owls is a brilliant conceit that will absolutely be part of our storytelling. I just won’t tell you when.”

“Gotham” Recap: “Rise of the Villains” Offers A Surprising Breakout Episode

The Court of Owls was introduced in 2011’s “Batman” #1, created by writer Scott Snyder and artist Greg Capullo. The group is a secret society that has controlled Gotham City behind the scenes for centuries, and thus are deeply interconnected with the Wayne family. In 2012, the “Night of the Owls” crossover brought the group to the forefront of the DC’s Bat-books.

This won’t be the first time the Court of Owls have been depicted beyond comics, as the group also figured into the “Batman vs. Robin” direct-to-home video animated feature, released earlier this year.

“Gotham” airs Mondays at 8 p.m. on Fox.
