Doctor Strange’s Cloak will be Vital to the Movie?

Just reading that title does seem a bit weird right? But based on some recent trademark acquisitions by Marvel it may not be so far fetched. It seems that Doctor Strange will not only wear his cloak but that it will be important. Check out the info on this below and share your thoughts after the JUMP!

The Incredibles’ Edna Mode certainly had a chip on her shoulder about superheroes wearing capes, but she never said anything about cloaks – and nobody rocks a cloak quite like Doctor Strange. The Master of the Mystic Arts’ look just isn’t complete without his high-collared garment, which not only has the benefit of looking badass but also gives the hero the ability to levitate. We had little doubt that this important aspect of Doctor Strange’s costume would make its way into the Marvel Studios film that has been programmed to come out in summer 2016, but now it appears we have found some bizarre confirmation. and Stitch Kingdom have uncovered two new interesting URL purchases by Marvel that seem to hint at the upcoming Doctor Strange film, including and – the latter being a reference to one of Doctor Strange’s many nicknames. Neither site is currently active just yet, and it may actually be a while before anything develops on the page. It’s worth noting that is already firmly in Marvel’s possession, as going to that URL will redirect you to the homepage.

So what do these URL purchases mean? It’s somewhat hard to say at this point because nether may end up going anywhere. All the same, it is interesting how specific both and The source of the story pitches an interesting idea, saying that the former may wind up being something that will be used by the marketing department, as Disney might be very interested in selling kids Doctor Strange cloaks for their Halloween costumes in 2016. As for the latter, perhaps it will be a part of a viral campaign? I do wonder what kind of internet presence Doctor Strange might have in the modern world.

Things are definitely moving forward with Doctor Strange, as Scott Derrickson was hired to helm the movie back in June and has presumably been conceptually building the movie ever since. What we still don’t know, however, is who exactly will be wearing Doctor Strange’s Cloak of Levitation in the movie. We’ve been hearing for months now that Joaquin Phoenix is Marvel’s prime choice for the role, but we’re still awaiting any kind of official confirmation on that front. We also still don’t know much about the approach the movie is taking in terms of story, as there has been rumors that the studio is starting to move away from straight-up origin stories and will begin finding new ways to introduce their characters to mass audiences.

Doctor Strange reportedly won’t be in theaters until July 18, 2016, and while that may seem very far away, the good news is that there is plenty of Marvel action set to happen between now and then. Joss Whedon will be unleashing The Avengers: Age of Ultron on the world next May, and it will be followed by Peyton Reed’s Ant-Man in July 2015 and Joe and Anthony Russo’s Captain America 3 in May 2016.
