Exploring the 1988 Cobra Imp – A Deadly and Unique Cobra Arsenal!

Story by Mitchell Smith
Welcome to The Outpost. Today I’m checking out the 1988 G.I. Joe Cobra Imp. This is an interesting vehicle that has 3 huge missiles for attack and room to seat 1 driver not included and 2 standing on the back. The overall look and color scheme makes this vehicle pop. It’s a nice tight unique design. There is some nice engine detail under the missile carriage and the driver’s console has nice detail. The missiles are the real play feature on this vehicle.
Each missile can be removed and splits into multiple parts. You have the war head, the tail, and 8 mines, that could also could be scatter bombs in my world , to give a maximum blow with 1 missile. I was also able to use the blast off effects that came with the classified Scrap Iron to give it some added depth in my pic. Although this vehicle does not have a specific driver and featured on the box is the Toxo-Viper, which I think I have one but, could not find him, I thought the 2000 Rock Viper which was a repaint of the 1990 Range Viper looked pretty cool driving this baby. I also thought the 2000 Hiss III driver, Rip It would have also look cool in this vehicle but, I don’t own that figure.
Overall this is a nifty medium size vehicle that shows the progression of the GI Joe line and how the team really worked hard on creating cool concept vehicles for GI Joe and Cobra. Who had an Imp as a kid? Who just realized that the missiles split apart? Make sure to check back next week for the next discussion at The Outpost.
