Exploring the 1990 G.I. Joe Locust Helicopter: A Compact Classic

Story by Mitchell Smith

Welcome to The Outpost. Today I’m taking a look at the 1990 G.I. Joe Locust. I did not have this as a kid and I just recently found this one in the bottom
of a bin and had to order the landing skid bar. I probably havdd ex missiles for it somewhere but I’m a bit disorganized right now. This is a pretty cool little helicopter. The original retail value was around $6.95. It looks like this was briefly used in the comics and cartoon.

I do remember seeing it in the cartoon but not as a major vehicle. It maybe was overshadowed by the much larger Retaliator from the same year, but I think this is a very useful helicopter. It would be quick and easy for an extraction and could be used as a quick attack chopper. I know some complaints of the awesome Cobra FANG is there was no protection, and this one definitely has protection with a full canopy.

Overall I like this vehicle but I’m not sure Hasbro will ever make a modern version. Size wise this would make sense as a Classified vehicle. It would be a nice compact helicopter that would fit on a shelf for someone who may have limited room. How cool would this be with a Freefall or a Retro Carded Wild Bill? Make sure to check back next week for the next discussion at The Outpost.
