Leading up to the next James Bond adventure, Spectre, there’s been a lot of talk about the latest in a long line of memorable theme songs. We only recently learned that British crooner Sam Smith will lend his pipes to “Writing’s on the Wall,” as the tune is titled, and while we still have to wait a bit to hear it in its entirety, he did drop our first hint of what we’re in for via social media. Take a quick listen for yourself below.

Smith unveiled this tidbit, and it really is just that, on his Twitter account this morning, and while there isn’t a ton to dig into here, this does give you a taste of what’s to come. To be honest, it sounds rather like you expect the theme from a James Bond movie to sound. There are soaring strings, swooning movements, and the whole affair is quite dramatic in nature overall.

For my ears, this sounds more like the score you might encounter within the film itself rather than one of the theme songs that have, over the years, been belted out by everyone from Duran Duran to Chris Cornell to Paul McCartney. No matter, this does feel very cinematic, and with Smith’s vocals laid over the top, it should prove to be very striking indeed.

Sam Smith had a big year in 2014 as his single “Stay With Me,” off his debut studio album In the Lonely Hour, was a massive international hit, selling millions of copies, and showing up everywhere. Fun fact, Tom Petty received a songwriting credit due to the tune’s similarity to his own single “I Won’t Back Down.” Smith walked away with a ton of awards, and multiple Grammys, including Record of the Year and Song of the Year.

He has some big shoes to fill singing the Spectre theme, as the last person with that job, Adele for Skyfall in 2012, walked away with an Academy Award for their efforts. So, no pressure or anything like that. To be fair, coming off of a movie that earned well over a billion dollars, Spectre also has some super high expectations. But what we’ve seen so far looks pretty awesome.

We’ll find out how Smith does in a few days when “Writing’s on the Wall” drops—you can preorder it now—but we’ll have to wait until November 6 to see Spectre.
