The man behind the mask of Doctor Doom in 2015 is Toby Kebbell. That’s the news late Tuesday afternoon from the trades, and reported first by Variety. The 2015 Fantastic Four will be Fox’s second try at the franchise, rebooting an earlier attempt that saw Julian McMahon in the role of Victor Von Doom in two films.
Kebbell is a virtual elder statesman in a cast skewing young at 31 years old, and has plenty of sci-fi and fantasy work in his past. He’s been in the video game movie Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, the mythological mayhem of Wrath of the Titans, and is in the upcoming Dawn of the Planet of the Apes with Fox and Warcraft with Warner Bros.
The actor will face down the “First Family” of Marvel Comics, as played this time around by Miles Teller (Reed Richards), Kate Mara (Sue Storm), Michael B. Jordan (Johnny Storm), and Jamie Bell (Ben Grimm). No confirmed plot details about the movie have yet been released by Fox, though the Josh Trank-helmed film already has a release date of June 19, 2015, and even has a sequel on the schedule for Fox for July 14, 2017.
