G.I.Joe ‘Crankcase’ Discussion By Mitchell Smith!

Welcome to the Outpost. Today I’m checking out one of my favorite G.I.Joe figures from 1985 Crankcase. First off he has a very unique name Elwood G. Indiana. So he has two all time great characters in his name. Indiana Jones and Elwood Blues. Really though his name came from cartoonist Elwood Smith and painter Rob Indiana.

Crankcase came with one of the greatest Joe vehicles ever made and he has had 2 upgrades one in 2008 and one in 2020. Both upgrades look cool and I have some pictures with a couple head swaps and both heads look good on either body. The 2020 version is cool but if you take a look at the original 1985 figure, for me he out ranks both up grades. The original figure is not over complicated the suspenders, cargo pants and helmet just worked wonderfully and the face, red hair, and mustache just made Crankcase pop.

There was never a 12 inch figure but how cool would Crankcase and the AWE Striker be in a 6 inch scale? He probably is a little over shadowed by the awesome vehicle he came with, but he remains one of my all time favorite characters. He did not have a lot of tv time but I am interested in tracking down some comics to get a little more back story. Who loves Crankcase? Who still needs to get there hands on the 2020 version? Sound off below and let us know! Make sure to check back for our next discussion.
