G.I. Joe ‘Shipwreck’ Through The Years!

Story by Mitchell Smith
Welcome to the Outpost. Today I’m taking a look at one of my favorite G.I. Joe characters in the Joe universe Shipwreck. Shipwreck who is voiced by Neil Ross was an instant hit for me and millions around the world. I remember my 10th birthday going to Ames department store in Saranac Lake to use $10 that I got for my birthday from my grandparents. I vaguely remember a Flint, Airtight and Dusty that I passed on to get Footloose and Shipwreck. I think the biggest push was he came with a cool pistol and of course Polly.
Things were a little stiff in the sticks as I remember needing to borrow change to pay the tax. Over the years shipwreck has had several version that were pretty awesome. 1994 V2 was cool with his dive suite on, 2004 V8 in navy camo and a Boonie hat, and 2012 V16 Dollar General figure was inexpensive and great for customizing. I do also have a very nice 12 inch figure from 2002 that I added a long coat to for those cold nights on the docks. There is a Sigma6 figure that came with a monkey, cute but a Polly would have been way better.
Finally the Classified Shipwreck. This is a cool figure that captures the original 1985 figure. Neil Ross did a great job bringing Shipwreck to life. He is one of my all time favorites in the animated series. There are so many great moments breaking into a top secret Cobra facility to del Christmas gifts to all the children. All said and done, Shippy is a great character and I’m happy he was the first figure I bought with my own money.
