Another character has been officially confirmed for Ryan Reynolds upcoming ‘Deadpool‘ movie. Actor Ed Skrein, famous for his role in the popular TV Series, ‘Game of Thrones‘, will be playing ‘Ajax‘. And no not the kitchen cleaner. Check out the latest on this below, and share your thoughts after the JUMP!
Of the casting additions to the Deadpool solo movie, we already know who pretty much everyone is playing. Ryan Reynolds is Deadpool (obviously), Morena Baccarin is Copycat, T.J. Miller is Weasel, and so on. There’s been just one question mark: who is former Game of Thrones star Ed Skrein playing in the film? We now have an answer.
Skrein, who previously played the role of Daario Naharis on Game of Thrones (replaced by Michiel Huisman), sent out a tweet today confirming his role in Deadpool:
Yes, he’ll be playing Ajax, aka Francis. For those unfamiliar with the comics, Wade Wilson first meets Ajax, then known as Francis, in the Weapon X program, where Francis worked as an enforcer. Francis was also the subject of sadistic experimentation, which resulted in his inability to feel pain as well as increased strength and intuitive abilities. Wilson emerges from Weapon X and becomes Deadpool, while Francis resurfaces years later as Ajax, a villain hellbent on killing everyone involved with Weapon X — including Deadpool.
Up until now it’s been unclear who the villain of the Deadpool film might be, but Ajax is a good fit, as he’s a big part of why Wade Wilson became the Merc With a Mouth in the first place.
Skrein stars alongside Reynolds, Baccarin, Miller, Gina Carano as Angel Dust, and newcomer Brianna Hildebrand as Negasonic Teenage Warhead. Deadpool hits theaters on February 12, 2016.
