It was a thought in some people’s minds that G.I.JOE 3 may have been pushed to the back burner after the Jem announcement. It seems those fears were justified today when it was announced G.I.JOE 3 has been delayed to tweak the script while Jon M Chu focuses on Jem and the holograms.
Thursday’s April Fools-esque revelation Jon M. Chu would direct a Jem and the Holograms movie with producer Jason Blum is 100% true. Teamed with Justin Bieber’s manager Scooter Braun, the trio took to YouTube to announce the project and ask the public for crowdsourced ideas. It was a big deal for lots of fans of the “totally outrageous” Eighties cartoon.
Later that night, the director took to Twitter to chat about the film. One of the revelations was that Chu will make Jem before G.I. Joe 3 because that Joe script is “taking a little longer” than expected. Read the quotes below.
@briantruitt PS Joe script is getting REALLY fun just taking alittle longer.I need it 2b perfect so decided 2try &fit a crazylittle movie in
So is this a good thing for G.I.JOE? It is always a good thing to work on a script, take a break and go back to it. This I believe whole heartedly.
If this pushes Joe 3 back for another year, how will it affect the retail end of things?
all club merchandise?
several interesting developments.
Who knows perhaps Paramount will take Chu off G.I.JOE and hire a new director.
anything is possible.
The political climate for war movies is shrinking with the real world events in Russia.
However as with all combat, in a few years, there will be war movies. G.I.JOE may just fit in perfectly, and we may even see a new October Guard. That is way down the pike though.
No matter what happens with G.I.JOE 3, I will still keep enjoying this hobby the way I always do.
comics, customs, writing, there are more facets than just merchandise.
I encourage everyone to relax, go with the flow, and not jump to hysterics.
“this too shall pass”
Meanwhile I will be on twitter watching Chu carefully. One of the best things about him is his dedication to keeping people informed via social media.
