Hasbro Wants To Make G.I.Joe Go ‘MILLENNIAL’!

Ever since it was announced that Jon M. Chu had been removed from future G.I.Joe movies as the director, there has not been any significant developments worth reporting regarding any upcoming G.I.Joe films. Today however, an article was published over at IGN where Hasbro opened up with what they envision G.I.Joe is going to be going forward. One thing you can discern from the comments in the article is that this is NOT going to be your Father’s OR Grandfathers G.I.Joe. They are looking to make the franchise more modern. Hasbro’s Simon Waters said,

“The world has changed, and I think you’re going to see G.I. Joe changing with it. There’s going to be a much more contemporary approach to the whole franchise, and that will allow us to develop different characters.”

Does that mean we are not going to see the franchises most iconic characters like Duke and Snake Eyes? It is hard to tell. It could just be that they will be changed so that they have no continuity with the characters we grew up with. One thing is for sure, G.I.Joe is not going to be ‘A Real American Hero‘ anymore. Hasbro’s Simon Waters stated,

“We hope to create a head snap,” said Hasbro Chief Content Officer Stephen Davis. “It’s a different kind of [G.I.] Joe — one that still resonates with Joe fans but brings in an uninitiated audience and expands the audience internationally and domestically.”

We do know that G.I.Joe is going to be joining a shared universe with ROM, Micronauts, Visionaries, and M.A.S.K. How do you think G.I.Joe will be different? Sound off with your opinions AFTER THE JUMP!
