It looks like ‘Wolverine‘, a character some would argue is the most iconic in the Marvel Universe is loosing his face. Actor Hugh Jackman has announced that he no longer will be playing the role. Which, in my opinion, means they should just put the character to bed on the big screen. It would be absolutely pointless to recast him in the near future. It’s a sad day for fans of Hugh Jackman and Wolverine. The actor has officially confirmed that the third Wolverine movie will be his last with the X-Men film franchise.
Jackman made the announcement earlier today when asked about his future involvement in the popular Marvel films on the Dr. Oz show.
“This will be my last one– it’s my last time,” said the Australian actor. “It just felt like it was the right time to do it. And lets be honest, 17 years. I never thought in a million years it would last, so I’m grateful to the fans for the opportunity of playing it.”
Jackman went on to allude that the premise of the third Wolverine makes for a good way to exit the series and hang up his claws for good.
“I kind of have in my head what we’re going to do in this last one. It just feels like this is the perfect way to go out,” said Jackman.
Jackman’s departure from X-Men may not come as a shock to everyone. The actor recently took to Instagram to share a photo that showcased one of his hands donning the prosthetic claws with the caption, “Wolverine…one last time. HJ” The photo caused quite a stir and quickly prompted fans to sound off in the comments as to what exactly Jackman’s caption meant. Looks like we’ve got our answer now.
While Jackman’s journey as the mutant Logan ends with the third film, there’s still no word as to whether or not he will make an appearance in X-Men: Apocalypse, which is set to release in theaters worldwide before the next Wolverine film.
It should be noted by fans however that while filming for X-Men: Apocalypse is well underway in Montreal, Canada, Jackman himself has yet to be seen on set for the film.
Hugh Jackman’s third and final Wolverine film is slated to be released sometime in 2017.
