Matt Reeves Teases Exciting Updates on ‘The Batman Part II

The highly anticipated sequel to The Batman is making significant strides, with director Matt Reeves revealing to SFX Magazine that the script for The Batman Part II is almost complete. “We’re finishing up the script now,” Reeves disclosed, adding that “the plan is to shoot next year.” Despite Warner Bros. pushing the film’s release from October 3, 2025, to October 2, 2026, fans can feel assured that production is on schedule to begin next year.

Reeves also confirmed that Colin Farrell’s Penguin will reprise his role in the sequel, seamlessly integrating with the upcoming HBO Max series The Penguin. Reeves noted that the series will act as a direct prelude to The Batman Part II, stating, “There are details that actually connect right into the way the next movie begins.” The show is designed to “hand the baton back to Batman,” as Robert Pattinson’s Dark Knight embarks on a new investigation. As for the sequel’s plot, Reeves hinted at a deeper exploration of Gotham’s intricate corruption. He explained:

“It’s going to dig into the epic story about deeper corruption, and it goes into places that he couldn’t anticipate in the first one.”

Reeves also mentioned that the groundwork for this narrative was laid in the first film, expanding the universe in a way that fans haven’t experienced yet. “Batman is constantly battling these forces, but those forces can’t be entirely exorcised,” Reeves hinted.
