After a series of teases for H.I.V.E. and Damien Darhk in the previous season of The CW’s “Arrow,” Neal McDonough has officially been cast to fill the large shoes of the man who can call himself an adversary of both Ra’s al Ghul and the Arrow, TVLine reports.

Though never seen, Darhk was in the peripheral of the last season; Ra’s al Ghul provided plenty of backstory for the character, recalling how the two trained together in the League of Assassins and how they split off from one another, with Darhk taking some of the Lazarus Pit’s water for himself and starting his own faction. Likewise, he was named as the leader of H.I.V.E., which appeared in a flashback with Diggle’s deceased brother.

The character’s official description calls him “a mysterious and sophisticated villain, and an adversary of the late Ra’s Al Ghul. Now the leader of his own clandestine group, this cunning foe will prove to be one of the Arrow’s greatest challenges.”

McDonough himself is no stranger to superhero adaptations, having played the Howling Commando Dum Dum Dugan in “Captain America: The First Avenger” and ABC’s “Agent Carter.” He has also appeared in “Mob City,” “Justified” and “Suits.”

Starring Stephen Amell, David Ramsey and Emily Bett Rickards, “Arrow” returns to The CW on October 7, 2015.
