Leading up to the forthcoming return of Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. to television, series lead Clark Gregg wasn’t shy about implying that the Inhumans are being introduced into the Marvel Cinematic Universe to allow them to approach topical topics that werent “necessarily available to us,” seemingly suggesting that fan speculation that The Inhumans are being used to take the place of mutants in the movies and TV is right on the money.

As reported by Collider, he acknowledged that the Inhumans may be a bit different from their comic book counterparts, describing them as a group that “evolved differently” from the rest of humanity and face challenges from members of the human race who “think they neeed to be put down.”

Sound familiar?

Here’s the full quote:

“I had a few suspicions. I certainly was hoping,” Gregg admitted when asked whether he had learned earlier than the general public about The Inhumans playing a role in the series. “The thing about Inhumans — and I know who the Inhumans are with Atillan; I don’t know if that’s how they’re going to do them. I was very excited when I saw that movie get announced. They’re people who evolved differently, and some people think that’s okay and a blessing for our species and there are those who think they need to be put down, which feels very topical to me. It’s not a topic that was necessarily available to us — and now it seems to be.”
