Officially confirming the expected, Marvel has announced Dominic Cooper, who played the young, 1940s era version of Tony Stark’s father Howard Stark in Captain America: The First Avenger and in the Marvel One-Shot: Agent Carter short film, will reprise the role in ABC’s upcoming Agent Carter series, joining his First Avenger co-star Hayley Atwell who plays the title role.

The series follows the story of Peggy Carter in the post-Captain America/WW II world. “It’s 1946, and peace has dealt Peggy Carter a serious blow as she finds herself marginalized when the men return home from fighting abroad,” reads the official description. “Working for the covert SSR (Strategic Scientific Reserve), Peggy must balance doing administrative work and going on secret missions for Howard Stark all while trying to navigate life as a single woman in America, in the wake of losing the love of her life – Steve Rogers.”

As in Marvel comic books in recent years, Howard Stark’s role and importance in the Marvel Universe continues to expand. Cooper will be the second actor to reprise the role in an MCU project. John Slattery, who portrayed an older, 60’s era version of Stark in Iron Man 2, will reprise that role as a 60’s contemporary of Michael Douglas’ Hank Pym in next summer’s Ant-Man.
