Review: DAREDEVIL Season 2 Premiere Event New York City!

UltimateToyCollector and Serpentorslair bring you our Review of the Daredevil Season 2 Premiere Event in New York City!

Last week I was lucky enough to attend the Daredevil Season 2 Premiere in New York City. Things didn’t go as planned and I wasn’t able to make it on to the red carpet but nonetheless I was able get in and sit through the screening of the first two episodes. Let me tell you that if you loved Season 1 and you loved Jessica Jones, then you will absolutely enjoy Season 2 of Daredevil. Now this is just an assumption because I only saw the first two episodes but from what I saw, this season looks to be nonstop action packed.

Fans honestly didn’t know what to expect from the first season of Daredevil. Hopes weren’t high considering 2003’s feature film atrocity of Daredevil starring Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner. But Marvel and Netflix heard the fans and tried to fix that which was awry. They gave fans a dark and gritty series that was jam packed with great character development, knock your socks off action, and phenomenal writing. Daredevil became the series to watch!!!! And at the end, fans were left wanting more. Not just more Daredevil, but more characters on the big screen or small screen… depending on how you look at it.

Skip to March 18th 2016. Anticipation is high! Season 1 we saw Vincent D’Onofrio become the embodiment of Wilson Fisk. So you sit here asking what could possibly top that? So far we know there’s an introduction of two new characters that will be integral to the plot. Bring in Frank Castle aka The Punisher played by Jon Bernthal and Elektra Natchios aka Elektra played by Elodie Yung. So far, little is known about Elektra. Spoiler, she wasn’t seen in the first two episodes. What we do know, she’s an old flame of Matt’s and she walks a fine line between Good and Evil. So that leaves us asking… How did they meet? Did they meet during Matt’s training with Stick? Will she have an affiliation with the Hand? Does she know Matt is Daredevil? So many questions!

Now, Frank Castle… The Punisher… He’s introduced in the first episode of Season 2. Right off the bat we see Daredevil delve into the dark grittiness that we loved in Season 1 and then some. We see bullets flying; we see the bad guys dying. We see the criminals punished and mercilessly exterminated. Matt Murdock finds out about this vigilante and decides he needs to be taken down. The Punisher proves very quickly to be Daredevil’s most formidable opponent. We’ve seen Daredevil get his ass handed to him a few times in Season 1 but The Punisher does it like no other! But as Daredevil pursues The Punisher, he realizes that their goals are essentially the same and they’re not much different from each other. We see The Punisher and Daredevil go at it in several fast-paced hand to hand fight sequences that during the premiere literally left the theater cheering.

Even though this seems to be focused around Daredevil vs. The Punisher we still see essential characters like Karen and Foggy. We see Foggy still juggling with Matt’s secrets. It’s also rumored that we will see things related to Karen’s troubled past as well.

The Punisher will undeniably be Daredevil’s biggest challenge yet. Just in trailers alone we see a very badly beaten and bloodied up Daredevil. One of the promo posters even has him chained up. So look forward to a grittier second season and expect Daredevil to be faced with even more difficult decisions and scenarios. If you loved the first season you will definitely love this season. I think even people who aren’t fans of the comics will love this season. I can’t wait to watch this season in its entirety.

Lastly, as my two cents, I would love to see Marvel’s Netflix Heroes merge into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Or as the series progresses, we see cameo appearances tied into story lines. Could you imagine The Punisher vs Spider-man or Captain America? Or now that Daredevil is evolving into his own we see him team up with Spider-man? Oh one can only dream. Fan boy sighhhhhhh.

Be sure to check out Daredevil season 2 on Netflix starting on March 18th, 2016. Also keep an eye out for Luke Cage on September 30th, 2016. Followed by season 2 of Jessica Jones. Join in the Conversation after the JUMP!
