Revisiting Conan the Barbarian (1982): The Timeless Tale of Revenge and Heroism
Story by Mitchell Smith
Today I’m taking a look at the Classic 1982 film, Conan the Barbarian. Conan is based on a character created by Robert E. Howard in the 1930’s. This is the movie that put Arnold Schwarzenegger on the map. The movie focuses on the body builders physique and strength to wield a sword. The late great James Earl Jones does a stellar performance as the movies main villain Thulsa Doom, who slaughters Conan’s village when he was a young boy. After years of slavery and forced gladiator fighting, Conan gets free and seeks revenge on Doom.
It has been many, many years since I watched this movie and it did not disappoint. The special effects were awesome for 1982 standards. Schwarzenegger Does an awesome job in his first big roll in Hollywood and Jones delivers an outstanding job as the ruthless cult leader. The movie is full of action and explores the timeless nature of human greed. This is a timeless classic and I plan to watch Conan the Destroyer and Red Sonja in the near future. I remember going out in the woods with a stick and pretending I was Conan as a kid. Wielding my pretend sword I would cut down the enemy and a victorious hero. Those were the days of simpler times. Have a great week everyone.
