“Saved by the Bell” might have been a teen comedy, but behind the scenes there was nothing but drama.
That’s according to Lifetime’s unauthorized movie about the popular NBC sitcom. The first clip released from the TV movie shows that the Bayside Six might have been all smiles on camera, but offscreen found it hard to get along. The clip depicts the “Bell” cast at a photo shoot scored to Bell Biv Devoe’s “Poison,” which sets the tone for the bickering between the six young actors. Lark Voorhies (who plays Lisa Turtle on the sitcom) has a crush on Mark-Paul Gosselaar (Zack Morris), and is upset seeing him flirt with Tiffani-Amber Thiessen (Kelly Kapowski). Elizabeth Berkley (Jessie Spano) tries and fails to keep the peace between them.
Meanwhile, Mario Lopez (A.C. Slater) starts doing push-ups in order to impress his female co-stars. When Dustin Diamond (Screech Powers) copies him but struggles to do more than one push-up, Gosselaar stops him from embarrassing himself.
According to Buzzfeed, the movie is based on “hours of brand-new interviews conducted for this film.” “Saved by the Bell” casting director Robin Lippin even cast the six young actors to play the stars of the popular show.
