Star Wars’: Sigourney Weaver Reportedly in Discussions for ‘The Mandalorian & Grogu
Sigourney Weaver, renowned for her roles in battling extraterrestrial creatures and opposing exploiters on verdant worlds, might soon encounter stormtroopers and cosmic bounty hunters. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Weaver is negotiating a role in ‘The Mandalorian & Grogu,’ which marks the first ‘Star Wars’ film project since 2019’s ‘Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.’
Jon Favreau, the creator of ‘The Mandalorian,’ is set to direct this new installment, with filming anticipated to commence later this year. Producing the film will be Favreau, Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy, and Lucasfilm’s Chief Creative Officer Dave Filoni.
‘The Mandalorian‘ premiered as the debut series for Disney+ in November 2019, featuring the character initially dubbed Baby Yoda, who rapidly became an iconic figure in popular culture. Pedro Pascal stars as Din Djarin, also known as The Mandalorian, a warrior initially hesitant to protect Grogu. The series, which launched its third season last year, has spurred several related projects, including ‘The Book of Boba Fett’ and ‘Ahsoka,’ with the latter currently preparing for its second season.
Pascal is expected to reprise his role as Djarin, though his involvement may vary due to a busy schedule, including a forthcoming role in Marvel Studios’ ‘The Fantastic Four.’
Weaver, a three-time Oscar nominee, gained fame as the enduring lead of the ‘Alien’ saga, beginning with the 1979 classic directed by Ridley Scott and further solidified by James Cameron’s 1986 follow-up, ‘Aliens.’ She continued her action-heroine persona in two additional sequels. Her iconic role as Ripley set a precedent for future female protagonists in film.
Additionally, Weaver made significant impacts with her roles in the ‘Ghostbusters’ series during the 1980s and returned for the 2021 reboot, ‘Ghostbusters: Afterlife.’ She is represented by UTA.
