We have known for a while now that Pixar’s latest, Inside Out, will take us inside the emotional thought process of a little girl. The full trailer for the upcoming animated comedy finally shows us how… and expands the scope of the project. Check it out below:

This is far more adorable than we even hoped. Yes, Pixar is going for a few easy targets by showing how different mothers and fathers are at the dinner table, lost in their own thoughts. But the concept of all of us having our own emotional Command Centers opens the door to so many possibilities, and I can’t wait to see how the film explores them all.

Also, as a husband and father, the phrase “Signal the husband” is not the single-most terrifying sentence I can imagine.

The beautiful thing about this Inside Out tease is that – even if you already knew what the concept behind the movie was – it reveals next to nothing about the rest of the movie. This actually could just be one scene set around the dinner table in the house of young Riley, but it does what it needs to do to explain how director Pete Docter (Up) will take us inside the minds and emotions of the key characters.

The official plot synopsis for the film breaks down the vocal talents lined up for Pixar’s Inside Out, so I’ll drop that below:
Growing up can be a bumpy road, and it’s no exception for Riley, who is uprooted from her Midwest life when her father starts a new job in San Francisco. Like all of us, Riley is guided by her emotions – Joy (Amy Poehler), Fear (Bill Hader), Anger (Lewis Black), Disgust (Mindy Kaling) and Sadness (Phyllis Smith). The emotions live in Headquarters, the control center inside Riley’s mind, where they help advise her through everyday life. As Riley and her emotions struggle to adjust to a new life in San Francisco, turmoil ensues in Headquarters. Although Joy, Riley’s main and most important emotion, tries to keep things positive, the emotions conflict on how best to navigate a new city, house and school.”

Maybe it’s because we didn’t have a Pixar movie in theaters this year, but I am jonesing for new storytelling from this amazing studio, and the tagline “a major emotion picture” only hooks me even more. Inside Out will be in theaters on June 19, 2015. What do you think of the first trailer?
