After being officially announced earlier this year, CW Seed has finally released a trailer for their animated series “Vixen,” based on the DC comics character. Check it out in the player below!

Originally from Africa, Mari McCabe’s parents were killed by local greed, corruption, and wanton violence. But the orphaned Mari refuses to succumb to the terrors surrounding her. Inheriting her family’s Tantu Totem, Mari can access the powers of animals – anything from the super-strength of a gorilla to the speed of a cheetah. As Vixen, she fights valiantly to protect the world from threats like those that claimed her family.

Megalyn Echikunwoke (“The Following,” “The 4400″) will voice the title character in the series which is set to last six episodes. Lead characters from both “Arrow” and “The Flash” will lend their voices to the series too including Stephen Amell, Grant Gustin, Emily Bett Rickards, and Carlos Valdes. “Arrow” showrunner Marc Guggenheim is set to executive produce the series which will premiere this fall on the CW Seed platform.

“This is essentially a coming-of-age story,” Guggenheim told TV Guide Magazine. “I love that we get to expand the universe. We started off with Arrow, which is very grounded, then The Flash introduced the concept of superpowers to this universe, and now Vixen will introduced the concept of magic. We’re continuing to building and expand the tapestry taht we have to play with.

Created by Gerry Conway and Bob Oksner in 1981, Vixen first appeared in Action Comics #521 complete with her animal mimicking abilities. The character has gone on to be a member of the Suicide Squad, Birds of Prey, and even the Justice League of America.
