We have a reveal of some of the costumes today for the upcoming X-Men: Apocalypse movie. The question is, are these the costumes that we will see on the X-Men or For the Horsemen. Check out the details below, and share your thoughts after the JUMP!
While they may not match what the characters wear in the comics, most of the X-Men movies feature the protagonists wearing costumes while out in the field. X-Men: Apocalypse will be no exception, and director Bryan Singer teased some of the super suits moviegoers will see in the 2016 superhero blockbuster. The big question is whether these will be worn by the heroes or the villains?
Singer shared this behind-the-scenes picture on Instagram showing off some of the costumes hidden behind display cases in a green screen studio. The bright lighting in the cases makes it impossible to tell what the outfits look like, but going off their outlines, they certainly look form fitting. Singer’s caption reads, “Reminds me of #area51,” comparing the studio they’re in to the facility often believed to house aliens and other paranormal objects in the Southwest United States.
Let’s start with the villains in X-Men: Apocalypse. We’ve already seen in pictures what Storm, Psylocke, and Magneto will be wearing as Horsemen of Apocalypse, and while their costumes look cool, they don’t really match the silhouettes in Singer’s picture. Of course, that’s not definitive proof that these aren’t the suits that antagonists wear at some point, but as of now I’m not convinced. As for the good guys, the only costumes we’ve seen for them so far are Quicksilver and Mystique wearing dark, armored suits that are reminiscent of the outfits worn by the future X-Men in X-Men: Days of Future Past. It’s possible that these are the same suits, and Beast, Havok, and Professor X might also don them for battle.
However, Singer hinted last last month that the movie features costumes that more closely match the suits seen in the comics. Perhaps the First Class characters will wear these armored suits, but Professor X’s students (Cyclops, Jean Grey, Jubilee, and Nightcrawler) will wear the colorful costumes reminiscent of what their comic book counterparts wear. Since ‘80s fashion was full of bright and vivid colors, this will make it easier for them to make the suits look closer to the comics. X-Men: First Class payed homage to the uniforms worn by the original five X-Men by making the jumpsuits yellow and blue, but these could be the real deal, comic book-y costumes that fans have been waiting over 15 years to see.
X-Men: Apocalypse will be released in theaters on May 27, 2016.
