A Look at G.I. Joe Footloose 1985 TO Present!

Story By Mitchell Smith
Welcome to the Outpost. Today I’m taking a look at G.I.Joe Footloose as a whole. In 1985 I stood there in Ames department store. There in front of me lied the dilemma of choosing 2 out of the 6 Joes that hung on the peg in front of me. Shipwreck was my first choice and second I remember Dusty, Flint and a couple others not coming to focus in my old foggy mind, but among the rest was Footloose, who I narrowed down relatively quickly if I remember correctly. He remained one of my favorite characters but he was very rarely used much in the animated series.
He was a good character and I always wanted to see more of him. When version 2 Slaughters Mauraders Footloose hit shelves in 1989 I was well past checking out the toy aisle at K-Mart and the Joes slowly faded into the past for me. when version 3 hit stores in 2005 I was building a family and figures were not on the shopping list to feed little mouths. Although this is a really cool version and I picked him up years later when I got into collecting. It wasn’t long after that the reboot of GI Joe in the mainstream would come back around.
As quickly as it rose it would fall. In 2012 the one figure I was looking forward to, became a Club Exclusive and was out of my price range at the time. Looking back it doesn’t seem that expensive compared to today’s standards but at the time I was struggling to pay for necessities such as food and upholding a household. I still have not gotten my hands on a 2012 Footloose but he is up there on my wants list. There never was a 12 inch footloose but I did a custom figure so I’m ok with that one. I recently acquired a 2007 Sigma 6 Gung-Ho, but I think he looks more like a Footloose, what do you all think? That would lead us to a golden age of collecting.
The past recent years have brought us tons of great classified figures and although I heard rumors of Footloose, we still have not gotten this figure. Although most of the 1985 figures have a Classified version we still lack the drivers which I hope we see them in some capacity , Airtight which Hasbro better do soon and better get him right, and Footloose who I have done a simple head swap to make a custom Footloose until a real version comes out. Overall Footloose is one of my favorite characters from 1985 and I’m not sure why he got pushed to the back but I would love to see more of him. I gotta have more Footloose! Who had a Footloose as a kid? Make sure to check back for our next discussion.
