After captivating audiences as Andy Dwyer in Parks and Recreation, Chris Pratt skyrocketed to Hollywood stardom with leading roles in the Guardians of the Galaxy, Avengers, and Jurassic World franchises. His foray into animation, including The LEGO Movie and Pixar’s Onward, paved the way for an unexpected but noteworthy role as Super Mario in The Super Mario Bros. Movie.
Proving skeptics wrong with his portrayal of the iconic video game character, Pratt is now set to breathe life into another beloved figure – everyone’s favorite lasagna-loving feline, Garfield. In an animated reboot by Sony Pictures, the first trailer for the Garfield movie has been released, showcasing the dynamic duo of Chris Pratt and Samuel L. Jackson as father and son, alongside franchise icons Jonathan and Odie.

Directed by Mark Dindal and based on characters created by Jim Davis, the film boasts a star-studded cast, including Hannah Waddingham, Ving Rhames, Nicholas Hoult, Cecily Strong, Harvey Guillén, Brett Goldstein, and Bowen Yang. Pratt, who voices Garfield, has been actively teasing the project on social media, promising audiences a Monday they won’t hate.
Originally slated for President’s Day weekend in 2024, the release date has undergone a shift, with the U.S. trailer suggesting a “Coming Soon” status for next summer. Meanwhile, the UK version on YouTube lists May 24 as the movie’s release date.
