In this four-part blog series, we’ll be diving into the Marvel Comics arc that brought these two legendary franchises together under the Generation 2 banner. Let’s kick things off with Issue #139 of the G.I. Joe comic, which serves as the opening salvo in this thrilling saga.
G.I. Joe Issue #139, titled “Realignments,” sets the stage for a high-stakes clash that blends the gritty world of G.I. Joe with the futuristic, mechanical might of the Transformers. Written by Larry Hama, this issue introduces the Cobra organization’s latest nefarious plot, which inadvertently entangles them with Cybertronian technology—setting the stage for explosive consequences.
Megatron, in need of repairs in his original form, discovers a transforming structure on Earth and is drawn to it. What he inadvertently thinks is a fellow Decepticon is actually Destro’s Silent Castle which has the ability to convert into different settings. Having stumbled upon the Castle and meeting Cobra Commander, the good Commander immediately takes the opportunity to broker a deal with Megatron trading Cobra technology and men to refurbish Megatron’s body, in exchange for Cybertronian Tech for Cobra!
Meanwhile Scarlett has proven her allegiance to Cobra by taking a sword to the gut from Snake Eyes, and Cobra Commander has something else in store percolating in the basement of Destro’s Castle.
