G.I.Joe

G.I.Joe ‘Cobra La’ Discussion by Mitchell Smith!

Welcome to the Outpost. Today I’m taking a look at Cobra La. Back when G.I.Joe: The Movie came out I was well embedded into the GI Joe world. I had 12 inch figures, I had 1982 figures, and I had 1985 figures. A lot of people feel 1985 was the hey day but I loved everything up to 85 and I loved the expansion and continuous creativity of years after that. The Cobra La mainly, Golobulus, Nemesis Enforcer, Pythona, and the Royal Guards were an instant hit for me. The opening scene with Pythona had me hook line and sinker. Golobulus is a great character.

I guess he was ahead of his time being plant based. I love this character and I would love a modern version but for now we will have to settle for custom figures, and there are a ton of them out there including a quick lower half swap on one I just did recently. Nemesis Enforcer is another awesome character and he had an epic battle with the Sarge. He did get a modern version and I love both versions of this figure. The modern one has an awesome set of wings but I love the original version just as much.

Pythona is one of my all time favorite characters that never had an o-ring figure. Why I don’t know and why was the modern figure only released as an exclusive?I couldn’t justify spending the money on 1 figure. Although I wish I had one, I made a custom for myself and I’m content with what I have.

The Royal Guard was a solid character and the original figure looks great. I had the 3 pack set as a kid so I have always loved these characters. Other characters that are awesome from the movie are Falcon, Serpentor, and another figure there have been some great customs of are Cobra Commander turning into a snake “was a man” the familiar cry as a blinded Roadblock used Cobra Commander as his eyes to escape the Cobra La. Over all this is one of my favorite movies and Cobra La has always had a spot in my heart. Who are my Cobra La fans? Who thinks a live action movie would be epic? Make sure to check back for our next discussion.
