Jensen Ackles Returns to TV with New Prime Video Series

Jensen Ackles, known for his roles in Supernatural, Ten Inch Hero, and Days of Our Lives, has been officially cast as the lead in Countdown, an upcoming drama series on Prime Video. The series will be directed by Derek Haas, the creative force behind several successful Dick Wolf franchises such as FBI and One Chicago. Haas is now collaborating with Amazon MGM Studios after leaving Wolf Entertainment, allowing him to focus on new projects.

Vernon Sanders, Head of Television at Amazon MGM Studios, shared the announcement in a statement cited by Deadline, expressing enthusiasm about the collaboration with Haas and Ackles. Sanders stated:

This new venture is part of a broader partnership between Haas and Amazon MGM Studios, which also involves Chaos Machine Productions, the company founded by Ackles and his wife, Danneel Ackles. Ackles recently gained acclaim for his role as Soldier Boy in The Boys, where he adeptly balanced action and drama, making his casting in Countdown highly anticipated by fans.

According to Deadline, Countdown begins with a mysterious daylight murder that leads LAPD officer Mark Meachum (played by Ackles) to join a secret task force comprising undercover agents from various law enforcement branches. As they uncover a more sinister plot, the team must overcome personal conflicts to save millions in the city.

The series has received a 13-episode order from Amazon, a considerable commitment indicating strong confidence in Haas’ vision. Ackles’ fans will have ample opportunity to watch him in this intense and thrilling new role, with Haas serving as both executive producer and showrunner.
