Whatever happened to Truth Justice and The American Way? That is right, you can’t say that anymore, you might ‘offend’ someone. Whatever happened to your white male super hero being a white male super hero? That is right, in 2014 being a white male is offensive. Not just in American Society but also at Marvel Comics. Why ask these questions? Because Marvel is going in a definitive direction away from Traditional American Values. Check out the read below, and see which side of the fence you fall on in this argument, then share your thoughts after the JUMP!
If I didn’t know any better I’d say Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders have hijacked the comic book industry. Last year Superman renounced his US citizenship. This week we learned that Archie is killed taking a bullet for his gun control loving gay BFF, that Thor is a woman, and now that Captain America is black. Oh, and word on the street is Iron Man is coming out of the closet. Comics sure are veering to the progressive left.
To be clear, I don’t actually care that Captain America is now a black guy other than it doesn’t make any sense because he’s been white for his entire existence. Writers are getting around this inconvenient fact by having the current CA stepping down and his duties taken over by another superhero named Hawk, who is black. Implausible? Sure. Political correctness? You betcha.
But plausibility is not really a comic strong point as we see with Thor, The God Of Thunder, becoming a woman. And this is not just some alternate universe comic book nonsense; Thor is permanently becoming a woman. Marvel editor Wil Moss said, “And this new Thor isn’t a temporary female substitute – she’s now the one and only Thor, and she is worthy!”
You know Thor’s sex change operation is a pathetic attempt at pandering because Marvel announced on The View this week. Do they really think bored housewives and uptight feminists are going to run out and buy Thor comics just because he is now a she?
It has also been announced that Iron Man is getting a fancy new suit and moving to San Francisco, which has raised speculation that the character is getting a gay makeover. Marvel editor-in-chief Axel Alonso’s statement that “The newly-transformed Superior Iron Man has very ambitious plans for the city that some of its residents embrace” has done nothing to quell that speculation.Called the “nerd outrage trifecta” Black Captain America, Lady Thor, and Gay Iron Man have managed to incense comic book fandom. While these character reboots have covered much of the progressive left’s new vision of America, I think there’s plenty of room left in the Marvel Universe to ruin time-tested beloved characters:
Native American Spiderman who uses his web to snare owners of sports teams with “racist” Indian names.
Butch Lesbian Hulk who pounds sexual equality into the skulls of misogynist homophobic men.
Vegan Wolverine who turns the hunters into the hunted.
Mixed-race Community Organizer Mr. Fantastic that uses his abilities to stretch the truth and redistribute wealth.
Comic books are a dying medium, like anything printed, but superhero movies are big business. Marvel’s re-imagining of its characters will have a very negative effect on the money-side of their company. Who wants to see a “chick flick” version of Thor, a Spike Lee interpreted Captain America, or Queer Eye For The Iron Man Guy? I’m guessing we will see these reboots fail and we’ll be right back to the traditional versions of the characters because that’s how the comic universe works.
