Milly Alcock Soars as New Supergirl in James Gunn’s DC Universe – A Meteoric Rise from House of the Dragon Star

Milly Alcock, the Australian actress who played the young Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen in HBO’s House of the Dragon, has been cast as Supergirl in the DC Universe. She will join the ranks of James Gunn and Peter Safran’s upcoming projects, which include Superman Legacy and Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow.

Alcock beat out other talented actresses, such as Emilia Jones from CODA and Meg Donnelly, who voiced Supergirl in some DC animated movies. She will portray a different version of Supergirl than the one we are used to seeing, as Gunn explained in a previous announcement:

“In our series we see the difference between Superman who was sent to Earth and raised by loving parents from the time he was an infant, versus Supergirl who was raised on a rock, a chip off Krypton, and watched everyone around her die and be killed in terrible ways for the first 14 years of her life, and then came to Earth when she was a young girl. She’s much more hardcore; she’s not exactly the Supergirl we’re used to seeing.”

It is not yet confirmed where Alcock’s Supergirl will make her first appearance, but fans can expect to see her in a solo feature based on Tom King’s 2022 comic book series, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, which has Bilquis Evely as the illustrator. No director has been announced for that film yet.
